With the UK starting to ease the nation’s lockdown restrictions, we’ve been working hard at Charley Chau to ensure that we stay up-to-date on Government guidance in the context of operating our small business safely, and to ensure that we’re doing everything we can to minimise any Covid-19 transmission risk.

The start point for us has been to carry out a Covid-19 risk assessment which looks at everything we do and how we can minimise risk within our workplace and we’re pleased to confirm that we have been able to comply with the Government’s requirements with regards to “Staying Covid-19 Secure in 2020” certification.

Minimising the risks of Covid-19 transmission

Our building is off limits to everyone except our small full-time team, and all of our team are clear that should any of us develop any symptoms of Covid-19, or any member of our household, that we should not come into work and that we would need to self-isolate.

With over 4,000 square feet of space in our building, we are able to adhere to social distancing guidance very easily – we have two separate office rooms, two kitchens and two cloakrooms for just three full-time members of staff. We are about to re-start recruitment to bring our full-time team up to five people again but even with five in the building, social distancing does not pose any significant challenges in the size of building that we work in.

We have implemented heightened hygiene precautions with everyone sanitising their hands on entry to the building before proceeding to wash their hands thoroughly once in the building and all of us are washing our hands regularly throughout the day. We have hand sanitiser, disinfectant spray, disinfectant wipes and disposable gloves in every room in the building. Our workspaces are cleaned and disinfected twice each day as a minimum.

The new processes that we have implemented also include limiting the equipment that is shared between members of staff – from the tools that we need for prepping and packing parcels, to printers, stationery, and even cups and mugs at work. Everyone now has their own tool caddy to carry with them at work so that we don’t need to share the equipment that is most frequently used in the course of our working day.

While we’ve put in place lots of processes, just a few of which are mentioned above, we’re also actively monitoring the Government advice that is updated frequently and ensuring that we act on the advice appropriately.

We’re doing everything we can as a small business so that our customers can shop with us with confidence, knowing that we are doing everything we can to ensure that Charley Chau continues to be a Covid-19 secure workplace.

If you have any questions at all please feel free to email us (hello@charleychau.com) or call us on 0161 848 8702.

Keep well.

Best wishes,
Christine & Jenny
