Ten of the Best - Dorwest

·

One of our 'Ten of the Best', celebrating brands and brilliant people doing amazing things for the love of dog. We catch up with Joanna Broughton-White Msc, Managing Director, Dorwest ...

Why we love Dorwest: Trust. Dorwest are specialists in herbal pet care with over seventy years of experience. When we need supplements for our dogs, we go straight to Dorwest. There's nothing faddy here, no wild, un-founded claims, just decades of expertise and quality that you can be certain of.

Over to Joanna ...

When and how did Dorwest start?

Dorwest Herbs was actually started by my Grandparents in 1948, It was a little different to the modern day Dorwest but many of our herbal formulations are still the same. My parents ran the business from the 1970’s and now it is myself as the third generation and my husband Ben’s turn. We are both incredibly passionate about our heritage, are huge dog lovers and are owned by 5 whippets!

My Grandfather started Dorwest primarily as he had a deep-rooted interest in all things herbal and also as my Grandmother was very ill and he was looking at alternatives to help her. However, Dorwest switched its focus under my parents guidance to primarily dogs and cats. Again, this was driven by their huge interest in all things dog! For so many everyday conditions high quality herbal products can make a real difference and it is this that drives us forward.

What is Dorwest’s signature product? Why do you think customers love it so much?

That is so hard because with so many of our products having such a long legacy it is hard to pick one. What makes our range different is our complete focus on quality of ingredients and with natural products they are only as good as the quality of the ingredient. Scullcap & Valerian Tablets is an example of this. Used for anxiety and nervousness, the high-quality extracts really make this so effective and has many uses from noise phobia, calming over excited dogs to helping rescue dogs adjust to their new surroundings.

If I am cheeky and include another this has to be Keepers Mix, our product for all round herbal health, it really super-boosts your dogs diet and is full of bioactive compounds and best of all 10% of the profit goes to charity. Christine – remove if you want to cut down – and see below how we can offer this back.

Tell us about a stand out moment or achievement for Dorwest.

With so much history we are fortunate to have had a few! We have won so many awards and it is just amazing to get recognition. However, I am most proud of launching the Dorwest Foundation. This was part of our 70th birthday celebrations. We love being able to give back to small charities and by donating 10% profit from our all-round herbal health product Keepers Mix every year. we are able to directly help dogs and cats in need of help. It is incredible to be a position to do this and hope we can expand this in the future.

What can dogs and owners expect from Dorwest future?

The most important thing is that you won’t see any change in our core values. Quality runs through every part of Dorwest, from our products to our customer service team to our production and dispatch department. Of course, we will also be launching some new products to the range in 2021 which are currently in research and development – exciting times!
