We love Louise Brooker at Edwyn UK

The second of our “We love” posts, showing some charleylove for the fabulous people we meet who, like us, are trying to grow a small business in the UK. Visitors to the Charley Chau show stand will be familiar with the range of gorgeous little key rings and tidy-pouches that we display alongside our own range of luxury dog beds and blankets. We’d like to introduce you to the lovely Louise Brooker of Edwyn UK who designs and hand-makes them in her studio in East London …

Spitalfields, London’s oldest market, is a fabulous mix of old and new – the hustle and bustle of an old East End market under a stunning glass canopy designed by Norman Foster & Partners. This is an old-school British market for a new-style crowd, a favourite haunt of the Hoxton fashion and art crowds, full of unique and beautiful items designed and made by some of Britain’s most exciting new creative talent.

The “go to” stall for every well-heeled hound lover in the Traders’ Market at Spitalfields is Edwyn UK, manned by Louise Brooker who is the creative brains behind Edwyn UK’s handmade collection of fabulous little things for home and hound.

Quirky, fun and undoubtedly unique, there’s something for every dog-obsessed, country-loving urbanite and their dog! Louise is from a family of artists and designers, brought up in the countryside near the Lincolnshire coast, but has lived in London all her adult life. The arrival of company namesake Edwyn, her gorgeous Welsh Terrier, inspired Louise to design a collection of products that incorporate a love of both country and city for dogs, their owners and their homes.

Our faves include the beautiful Patchwork Cushions, Draught Excluders and of course the fabulous little key rings, neckerchiefs and tidy pouches.

The thing we love most about EdwynUK is that every single item in the collection is a labour of love.

The Patchwork Cushions are … patchwork cushions! What we mean is real patchwork cushions, where small patches of different fabrics are stitched together, not made from a roll of cotton printed to look like patchwork!

The key rings, dog neckerchiefs and tidy pouches are handmade by Louise and each little dog face, heart and bone motif is hand printed from lino cuts made from original illustrations by Louise.

Louise also hand-embroiders these gorgeous linen cushions - not on a new-fangled embroidery machine but on a good old-fashioned embroidery ring; stitch by stitch with painstaking care and attention to detail.

In this day and age of mass production and cookie-cutter products it’s rare to find someone who takes such time and care over every little detail, and the results, well, we think they speak for themselves – a unique, handcrafted collection of lovely things that we adore!
